Most consumers are not aware of what their comprehensive deductible covers on their vehicle. For example, did you know that most insurance companies fully cover a stone chip to be repaired in your windshield? Probably not! Your comprehensive deductible covers damages caused by something or someone other than the driver. For example, if you park your car in your driveway and a tree falls on it during a storm, your comprehensive deductible will cover any damages to your vehicle that you were caused by the tree. Some other common mishaps that are generally covered are vandalism (glass, tires, theft, paint scratched, etc.) and damaged caused by wildlife such as deer, turkeys, bear. Also random acts of nature such as hail is also covered under your comprehensive deductible.
Your Collision deductible covers damage caused by the driver. If you are driving and hit something instead of something hitting you, your collision deductible would pay for the damages. Most policies carry between $100 – $1000 collision deductible but some people do buy that down to $0 out of pocket deductibles in which case the damages would be 100% covered.
Now that you know the difference between the two deductibles, there are two ways for you to save:
• As soon as you notice a stone chip on your windshield, cover it on the outside to keep it clean and dry, and call American Mobile Glass at 800-924-0808. As we stated earlier, most times your deductible is waived costing you no money out of pocket. This repair can be completed in less than 30 minutes and we come right to where your vehicle is located. If you do not act quickly, once the windshield cracks you are required to pay your comprehensive deductible or even worse pay for an entire new windshield out of pocket.
• Lower your comprehensive deductible. If your deductible is currently high, ask your insurance representative for the difference in premium to lower it to something more manageable. Generally we see customers with a $100 deductible which is a minimal out of pocket expense, and it is usually not a large increase to your premium to add this on.
